Abstract
The paper examines an eighth grade orthography test with the aim of improving current methods in teaching orthography and encouraging the development of functional knowledge in elementary school students. Besides general considerations concerning the test in the context of teaching and all the elements connected with its preparation and implementation (clear rules and persistent adherence to rules, clear instructions for tasks, appropriate teacher instruction during classes), the paper also provides a description of a test model which can be used during a revision class of eight grade Serbian language orthography.
