Abstract

The essay is concerned with reiterations in the poem Zidanje Skadra sang by Old Rasko, specifically with those regarding building, building sacrifice, family relations, motherhood, as a base of the poem’s meaning. It has been shown that the poem is composed on the principle of reiteration: from a line, through specific segments to the work as a whole. The author starts from the hypothesis that such analysis could help presenting the poem to students and help their understanding of traditional culture. She believes that this poem could be a good introduction to traditional beliefs concerning relation between men and higher forces. At the same time, this analyses points out real, contemporary human relations appearing in the poem: selfishness, altruism, (in)sensitivity, lie, pain, loss. All these could help students to develop sensibility and to understand traditional culture through experience of the poem’s tragic pathos.
